On June 30, 2026, the Supreme Court
ruled in West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox to allow states to
ban transgender athletes from participating in sports. Join the Reform
Movement’s open statement expressing your commitment to transgender inclusion
and belonging. After you sign the statement, we will send you advocacy and
inclusion resources to uplift the rights of transgender people.
As Reform Jews and allies, we are heartbroken by the Supreme
Court’s decision in West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox, allowing
states to deny transgender girls the opportunity seek to participate in school
sports alongside their peers. The inclusion of transgender women and girls does
not diminish the equality of all women and girls; it affirms it.
Our Jewish tradition teaches that all human beings are
created b’tzelem Elohim, in the Divine image (Genesis 1:27). As Reform Jewish
clergy, educators, congregants, community leaders, and allies, we proudly
affirm the dignity, belonging, and sacred humanity of transgender, intersex,
and nonbinary people – especially our young people.
The systemic erosion of
transgender rights is not just a series of isolated legal disputes. As the
Supreme Court and some elected officials continue to deny transgender people
control over their own bodies, identities, and lives, Reform Jews and our allies
will continue to fight for the freedom of all LGBTQ+ people to be themselves
unconditionally.
To transgender youth in the Reform Movement and beyond affected
by this decision, our message is direct and unwavering: We see you, we love
you, and you belong – fully and unconditionally.
